last month's color

autumn ends late in my town; it starts late too, because i can never get enough of it. even clunky old parking meters seem like jewels in the light of the turning leaves and with the reflection of the dusky sunlight.

shirtdresses

I'm a big fan of the classic shirtdress, although i'm going to have to resort to making my own: tall, long waisted me can't buy "off the rack" without the waist sitting below my ribcage and the hem hitting above my knees. in addition to being long waisted, i also have toothpick legs and don't like to wave them about too much. layering a skirt under a shirt dress? - yes please!

or just always wear tights...

i digress.
so, on the sewing list for 2011: more of the same!

here's a real charmer from Jonathan Saunders' summer of '10 collection. i love the inverted box pleats. thanks to the sartorialist for giving me fashion inspiration; now i just need some extra time...

on college student fashion

i hung out on campus today. i really don't miss being surrounded by oblivious 19-year olds, glued to their cell phones. i also noticed something: Uggs. in my few short months of *not* being a student, i realized that i hadn't seen people wearing Uggs. and it dawned on me that the only people that wear Uggs with such astounding variety and regularity are college students.

and there they were! leggings and sweat pants and all.

what an assault to the senses.
i have one word of advice for you ladies.

in the REAL world, no one takes you seriously if you wear your pajamas out of the house.
